A sharp change in weather as a strong cold front moves through the region early this week. The cold front will usher in a much colder airmass, dropping daytime highs by 10 to 15 degrees starting Monday.
Monday: Clear Skies and Cooler Air Arrive
The cold front’s arrival will clear the skies Monday evening, bringing noticeably cooler air. Overnight lows will begin to reflect the arrival of the colder airmass, setting the stage for near-freezing temps in some areas.
Tuesday Night: A Chance of Showers and Flurries
A second disturbance will track along the upper-level trough, bringing light showers to southwest Virginia and parts of northeast Tennessee Tuesday night. In the higher elevations of northeast Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains, moisture associated with the system could produce some sprinkles or even a few snow flurries late Tuesday night. Some light accumulation is possible across the highest peaks.
Midweek Forecast: Daytime Highs in the 50s and 60s, Chilly Mornings
The cooler, dry air will settle into the region by Tuesday and persist through Thursday, keeping daytime temperatures in the 50s to lower 60s. Expect chilly mornings, with lows dipping into the 30s to around 40 degrees from Wednesday through Friday. Those heading out early will need to bundle up, as this is the coldest air East Tennessee has seen this season.
Weekend Warming Trend
By Friday, temperatures will begin a gradual rebound, with daytime highs climbing. The warming trend will continue into the weekend, bringing milder conditions as the cold front’s influence fades.
